Rockland County, NY - Countywide Public Safety 700 MHz P25-II Trunking Network

     PierCon Solutions was contracted by Rockland County to evaluate the vendor proposals they received for an interoperable UHF narrow band simulcast digital trunked network to support all of their police, fire and EMS first responders. PierCon completed the evaluation and provided the county with a vendor recommendation and proposed budget for a $30M network.

Petra Solar – Design of the World’s Largest MESH Broadband Supporting Solar Generators

     New Jersey's Public Service Electric & Gas is finalizing the installation of 200,000 power pole mounted solar panels – a $200-million project that supplies 40 megawatts MW directly into the electric grid. The pole-attached solar program is the first of its kind and is the largest pole-attached solar installation in the world and PierCon is honored to be the project’s wireless design partner.

Alcatel-Lucent - NYC Subway Radio System

     As a sub-consultant to Alcatel-Lucent, PierCon is responsible for the RF baseline testing of the New York City Subway’s existing analog system and determining the overlap zones both above- and below-ground within the tunnel systems. PierCon’s responsibilities continue with the design of the simulcast replacement system, the overall RF test plan development and management, post-installation baseline testing and confirmation of non-overlap interference issue.

NYC Police Department - Microwave and Audio Routing Design for PSAC 2 E9-1-1 Center

     When the New York City Police Department decided it was time to construct their second E9-1-1 dispatch center, Motorola Solutions’ decision to use PierCon as the audio routing and microwave design sub-consultant was a no brainer. After all, one of PierCon’s owners was Motorola’s lead engineer for NYPD’s original PSAC, and PierCon’s Director of Consulting was the sales lead that closed a $95M sale to Motorola for PSAC-1’s equipment and professional services.

Suffolk County, NY – Design Construction and Maintenance of a County-Wide Wide WiFi Network

     Through a competitive bid, PierCon was chosen by Suffolk County to design and construct a WiFi system to provide free Internet service to the users of county parks. PierCon conducted site surveys and produced coverage maps to determine the optimum location for each access point. Once the county provided approvals, we developed construction drawings and performed the installation. PierCon then performed equipment commissioning and optimization, with system performance monitoring from our Network Operating Center in Lincoln Park, NJ. As a post-award service, PierCon continues to support this engagement through second-echelon maintenance and installation of new access points.


City of Elizabeth, NJ – Re-Design of MESH Broadband System Supporting Municipal Surveillance Camera System

     PierCon was subcontracted to evaluate the poorly operating wireless MESH video surveillance system installed in Elizabeth, New Jersey. PierCon reverse engineered the system, performed frequency planning, established VLANs and optimized the existing mesh network. Add-on services included the expansion of the video system by installing additional point to multi-point equipment, MESH equipment, and point-to-point equipment. PierCon provided the RF engineering; developed the equipment bill of materials; supplied the MESH, PTP and PMP equipment, configured and optimized the equipment.


NJ Transit – Hudson-Bergen Light Rail

     Based on our reputation for delivering wireless coverage in underground and other challenged areas, PierCon was contacted by URS Corporation (operator of New Jersey Transit’s Hudson-Bergen Light Rail) to respond on an emergency basis to their North Bergen station. This station, which is 160’ below street level, is served by a four-band bi-direction amplifier (BDA) which supports the communications of 14 public safety agencies and four mutual aid systems. The lack of preventive maintenance for many years resulted in the BDA being unreliable and URS was unable to find a contractor to restore it to operation.

NYC DEP - 15 Site DMR Radio System with Network Operations Center ("Non-Citywide Radio System")

     Through Motorola, PierCon responded to restore in-building two-way communications to the DEP’s North River water pollution plant after a fire took the 340 million gallon facility off-line, with raw sewage flowing into the Hudson River. Our work was hampered by the lack of installation records and as-built drawings, forcing us to perform a physical reverse engineering study of the equipment and its distributed antenna system. Impressed by our ability to return communications to the plant quickly, DEP entered in discussions with PierCon to evaluate communications at each of their fourteen water treatment plants and propose improvements.

North Haledon, NJ – Public Safety Two-Way Radio Enhancement

          Jan. 2015 Status: Ongoing Expansion

     North Haledon approached PierCon to perform a VHF/UHF Narrow banding Impact Study and also to report on site conditions and equipment obsolesce. Our report included 25 kHz versus 12.5 kHz coverage predictions and a gap analysis that identified the risk presented by unreliable leased telephone lines. As a result of our report and various public meetings, North Haledon entered into a multi-year phased plan to enhance all of their municipal public safety wireless communications.
